Preschool Education Program (PEP)

Welcome to the Strafford Learning Center Preschool Education Program (PEP) operated for the Oyster River School District. PEP is a 3-5 regular education program with services such speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and other related services integrated within the context of a developmentally appropriate preschool program.

In September 2010, PEP was relocated to Oyster River High School with two classrooms and a dedicated preschool bathroom located off of one of the rooms. A playground specifically designed for preschool aged students was constructed by a team of community volunteers. PEP runs two morning classes for 3 year old students, and two afternoon classes for 4 year old students. Beginning in September 2021 the hours of the program shifted to 8:15-10:45 M-Th, and 12:00-2:30 M-Th respectively. PEP provides a regular education program for students ages 3-5 who have been determined in need of such a program through the special education process along with children from the community who are enrolled in the program for a fee.

PEP utilizes the Creative Curriculum for Preschool (Trister, Dodge, D. et. al. 2002) as a foundation for curriculum decisions. The Creative Curriculum is a research based curriculum which integrates all areas of development into center based learning experiences. The Creative Curriculum is used across the country in both regular education and special education programs. In addition to the Creative Curriculum, elements of other curriculums, such as Handwriting Without Tears® are utilized for the curriculum. If you are interested in receiving more information about the enrollment process, please contact the Program Director at 603 389-3695 or lgrant@orcsd.org.
